The old blokes at the CRTC have decided to allow Al Jazeera English entry to the Canadian satellite airwaves.

I was surprised upon hearing this. I was under the impression that the network would not be allowed to broadcast in Canada due to, what was claimed to be, graphic subject matter.
Alas, Al Jazeera will be in Canada; At some point.

A year ago I began tuning into the live internet streams of Al Jazeera in English. I was shocked with the lack of coverage regarding Brittney Spears, Brad Pitt, and Twilight. The network didn't even cover "Balloon Boy" a few months back.

If those are people and topics you feel the need to know about, then Al Jazeera English is not for you. On the other hand, if you like real news with interesting, in-depth journalism, then Al Jazeera will likely float your boat.

Despite being owned by an American, the Hudson Bay Company has been trumpeting the "We Are Canadian" note a lot lately. This is because of their agreement with the Vancouver 2010 Olympics in being able to create and sell 2010 Olympic branded clothing.

The HBC, which is the parent company of The Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters, and Fields, has released a video promoting the 2010 Olympic clothing line. But in the process, they've hit a cord which reminds the viewer that the HBC is actually older than Canada itself.

Hamid Karzai is a classy guyHamid Karzai has been declared the winner of the Afghan elections after his main opponent, Abdullah Abdullah, dropped out of the Presidential race after his demands to create a fair election were not met.

For those who don't know, the Afghan elections, which took place back in DATE were plauged with an overwhelming amount of fraudulent votes. Some estimates placed over 1 million spoiled ballots being disregarded. Upon expiring the corrupt ballots, Karzai had less than 50% of the vote, leading to a run-off election between himself and Abdullah Abdullah.

Because of Abdullah's resignation, there is no competitor left to challenge Karzai, leading to his declaration of victory and cancellation of the run-off election.

So here is the strategy to democratic victory in Afghanistan:

1. Place thugs at polling stations
2. Stuff the ballot boxes with false ballots
3. Refuse to amend the electoral process
4. ????
5. Be re-elected and congradulated by world leaders for your victory

Stay classy Karzai.
